Draw your deck and get on board the Hearthstone craze now available on iPad!

I beta tested Hearthstone quite a few months ago when just before it first came out on PC/Mac and I absolutely loved it. Just just to clarify card games are not my thing (and I have only ever won 5 matches in Hearthstone so far) but I cannot stop playing it!

I'm not sure if it is because I once was a die-hard World of Warcraft fan and I am getting nostalgic seeing the faces of many old characters I once conversed with, or the fact that it's just a super smooth running interactive fun card game. I just want to point out that you don't need to have played WoW to understand this game, the characters are from WoW but they have their own quirky personalities and even trash-talk you at times!

It is free to play with in-game transactions - which can I point out are so unnecessary, you make enough gold by doing daily quests to get at least 3 cards packs a week. I have unlocked myself a few rare cards here and there. I do not intend of every paying money in-game for any card packs and I have many friends who also play the game which are doing the exact same.

So the aim of the game is to use your deck of cards to defeat your opponent, you get mana crystals each turn (this starts at 1 and gradually increases to 10 per round). Both players have '30' health and the aim of the game is to defeat the other player, but be warned most characters have a lot of tricks up their sleeves, and if you think you suck at first once you get the hang of some minor tips and tricks you're good to go!

You can also disenchant cards and turn them into crafting materials to 'craft' new rarer cards.
You can use a basic card set which the game generates for you, or customise your own (this is good once you start unlocking card packs and levelling). You also get cards specific to each class of character, so far the one I enjoy playing as the most is Hunter - some of the Hunter specific cards are badass...this could also be because Hunter was my favourite class in WoW too. You unlock classes by either defeating the class in a random battle or in practice mode.

Some classes are harder to get the hang of than others, especially Warlock which I still cannot be bothered to even level up!

All the surroundings are interactive if you click on them they move!
I really enjoy this game and I love the element of being able to challenge your friends too, because I get very competitive (even though I suck), but there is never a better feeling than beating a complete stranger. Or when the stranger knows you're going to win and drops out of the game early *cackle cackle*

I have now played both editions, and I find that the iPad edition runs smoother and this kind of game is definitely made to be played on a tablet. Blizzard have finally impressed me for the first time in about 5 years.

If you have any sort of thought about playing this game, then just go and download it and give it a try. It's free - whats the harm eh?

If you fancy adding me for some play time my battle.net username is #2382

FOR THE HORDE!

  1. That actually looks pretty fun (I'm not a card gamer either). Maybe one day when I get an iPad.
