We were happy to review the game Runers* when described as a mix between Gauntlet and Binding of Isaac, so what did we think of this very unique game...

Runers is a top down dungeon crawler from Let's Get Kraken, the aim of the game is to make your way through a magical dungeon and tackle monster hordes and big bad bosses. Sounds like an awesome dungeon crawler so far right?!

Well you also get to combine runes and make over 250 spells in-game, allowing you to unlock challenges and achievements. You have to work your way through countless amounts of dungeon floors to the deadly finale boss and take him on, but having to conjure spells along the way give you a chance to boost your characters abilities and skills.

We found that the game started at quite a difficult level (not sure if this was just us) but once we sat down with the tutorial it was super helpful and we began our quest. But judging from the creators comments on 'if you like dying a lot' we realised that we were going to die over and over. This did not stop us from working our way through the game however!

In terms of looks, the game has quite a cute pixelated look to it alongside a pretty vibrant colour scheme! And whether or not you're being killed by a giant beetle or rat (which we may or may not have experienced....) this is quite an addictive little game. The layout of the interface was my only problem as I thought it was a bit chunky on the top of the screen, the rest of the interface however looks really sleek, like when you first create your character by choosing a passive ability and class you get to choose from a huge selection of different people and they all look visually pleasing - especially the one which looks like Groot from GotG.

Personally I would compare it to something like Rouge Legacy in terms story and play-through and completely agree with the creators when comparing it to Binding of Isaac.

Overall we all really enjoying this game, including the one person who doesn't really play RPGs or dungeon crawlers so it's definitely brought out a new side of gaming for her.

If you would like to win a copy of Runers then simple leave a comment on this post with your twitter handle, email and favourite class to play as in an RPG!
