I have spent my entire weekend playing Lego The Hobbit on PS4, so I thought I would share a review for you all as not any of you will get to play this on a next gen console!
This Lego game follows the same format as The Lord Of The Rings edition (so those who have played this should not be too blown away by the style) however I found that this game was a lot less glitchy and seemed to run so much smoother.

I'm not sure if that was just because I played this one on a next gen console or not...however I never thought I'd be commenting on the visuals of a Lego game as they tend to be pretty generic, but this game is absolutely beautiful. Tt went all out in making this one use the full functions of a next gen console, even the shadowing looked spectacular - and you want this, especially as it's based on the film which was also a visual masterpiece. The cut-scenes merge straight into the gameplay so you never really feel like you're being taken away from the game when watching one.

My stand out level was the Murkwood forest spider one - especially as I spent the entire afternoon assembling this scene out of actual Lego...(sometimes I forget I'm 24, and I don't have a kid as an excuse for my toys) the level looks really pretty and felt almost 3D when you were roaming around, it had brilliant scenery overlaying which the other Lego games seemed to be lacking.

As said before, the gameplay is your typical Lego game (with the open world Middle-Earth to explore) as well as this it has the new 'building' technique used in Lego city - this is a mini-game which you have to pick the correct lego pieces to finish the building (you gain bonus studs if you do it in the time limit set). And they added a really nice mining edition where if you play as a specific character you can mine ores around Middle Earth which are used to create items (also used in the blacksmiths).
I really loved this little addition and spent almost an hour running around mining materials before actually getting involved into the serious story-mode.

The story itself seems very rushed and if you sat down for an entire day you could play through both the first and second films (the third is going to be a DLC add-on). However the side-quests really do make up for the rushed levels.

I overall really enjoyed this game and would definitely recommend it if you are a fan of the Lego franchise games (or The Hobbit), it's fun quirky and Gandalf sleeps, a-lot...

Have you played this game, what did you think about the new features?
