I have recently had an obsession with music based games, especially after Final Fantasy Theatrhythm. And when I saw that Dungeon Hearts was another battle based rhythm game I couldn't resist purchasing it!
The aim of the game is to guide your four across a playing 'field' (running through various locations with inter-changing backgrounds) and when they bump into enemies use the four coloured gem stones to make colour coded patterns of three or more blocks which then allows your character to attack.
I thought this would be simple enough as how hard can it be moving a few blocks around on a timer, I mean we've all played Bejewelled haven't we? But as the games goes on the enemies get harder and they introduce various other shaped gems which do different things.
And don't forget the enemy is also attacking you at the same time and if your character dies their colour gems become worthless and create a annoying mess on your musical timeline.
At the end of each battle you get a 'bonus' round where you match the coloured star gems and each time you match you level up your character, so this round is particularly important if you need an extra boost for the next battle!
I really enjoyed this game, it's simple yet infuriatingly addictive at times. The soundtrack is really catchy too, especially as this is a rhythm game so you need music that will stick and make you move faster. It runs smoothly and looks adorable, I spent my entire day playing this and now I cannot get over how much I enjoyed it.
If you want a cute rhythm game then go and pick this up on Steam now for a tiny £1.99
Edit: I am also informed it is on the current Humble Bundle.
