I was fortunate enough to spend last week juggling University paperwork alongside a very interesting paper based game brought to us by Dissident Logic...

Paperbound is essentially inspired by Smash Bros, but with less Nintendo and more anti-gravity. You defy gravity whilst battling through various old storybooks as storybook characters - you can either play against the computer, play against strangers online or play against friends.

The game is 4 players and the maps aren't huge but they're big enough to find yourself a hiding spot if you need one. Then again the games are so mental at times, you are kind of glad the maps are on the small side.

The game allows you to run up walls and platforms and then invert the gravity to land on-top of your rival for some awesome surprise attacks. Although the game can get really chaotic and out of control at times, once you get the hang of it you can use the gravity to help you tactically win the match.

I really love the way this game looks, who would have thought a brawler based on paper could work right? However the way they integrate the weapons to match the theme (throwing scissors and ink bombs) really makes the game have a little something extra and not feel too much like a generic brawler.

Also I'm sure when you pick this up you'll be surprised with some of the 'secret' characters you can choose to play as, especially if you're a big indie game fanatic like myself...I may have squealed!

Now as regular readers of my reviews know, I get really frustrated with hard games (especially ones which you die a lot) but this really did have a Smash Bros affect on me. I just couldn't stop playing, even after swearing at my computer screen quite a few times...

Not only is this game stupidly addictive but the comedy element to it is genius, I ended up howling with laughter at some of the kills I managed to do. One of my favourites is using the throwing scissors. So if you do want to pick this up and know some friends who are fans of brawlers you should definitely get them to purchase it too (and do a party chat) because I'm sure your commentary will be brilliant.

If you were thinking of picking up this little beauty then you can get it on PC (Steam) or PS4 (not released in Europe just yet) for as little as £6.99.
