Punishment is waiting for you....
So. Recently I had a friend lend me a game called Danganronpa, I'd not heard much about it but the way he described it was a mixture between Ace Attorney, Battle Royale and Persona. So I instantly jumped at the chance to play it.
If you are thinking of picking up this little gem, I must pre warn you that the game is mainly text. It is a game which involves you in the story and you spend most of your time investigating.
Without spoiling the game too much, you play as the main protagonist who is starting his first day at a new high school. Hope Peak Academy. The school seems fairly well known and prestigious, but once inside for just two minutes things take a turn for the worst.
It's really hard to review this game without ruining the story, as it begins from the get go. However I can say that you do spend your time investigating from around 10 minutes into the game. And you find yourself not being able to trust any one person in the game. To start there are 15 of you. Like in persona you do have 'free time' in which you spend building relationships with others and gaining 'points' for the courtroom.
Once you get to the stage when you have your first courtroom scene you're thrown in with around 5 different sections. All very fun and all help you unravel the main story mystery. One of the main things I can tell you is everyone in the school is an 'ultimate' whether it be the ultimate fanfiction writer or ultimate lucky student!
I played through this game with the English voice over actors. However I did end up switching to Japanese with subtitles in the end as it just works better. All the characters have their own quirky personalities and depth and you'll learn you like (or dislike) them all.
By the end of this game I felt so involved in the story that I started the second one the next day. I did not feel as involved as I did with Persona 4, but this game was almost a quarter of the size in length.
I guess this wasn't really a review but a little snippet at how much fun you'll have if you enjoy this kind of game. Pick it up on Vita from the Sony store!
Also if someone can find out where I can get myself a Monokuma teddy then let me know!
Amy x
