Hands on with Bound By Flame developed by Spiders and published by Focus Home Interactive, this adult themed RPG instantly throws you in at the deep end...

Bound by Flame is a hack-and-slash fantasy RPG which brings elements of The Witcher and Kingdoms of Alamur Reckoning with it. It has a heavy choice decision narrative which will end up affecting which allegiances you join and if you decided to some one-on-one combat.

When starting the game you are asked to choose a name for your male/female character however you then go by the nickname Vulcan throughout rest of the game, which is pretty fitting when you consider that you are going to spending a lot of time in the game with a Demon who progressively tries to become your conscience. The story does lacks throughout this game and was the most disappointing factor to me, I got to point where I was just sticking conversations and didn't even bother reading them because they were so generic and cliché with other RPGs.
But it does then to heat up with the voice acting, there is a lot of swearing throughout, I actually think this is on par with the recent Wolf of Wall Street movie - we were just missing a bit a Leo.

In terms of gameplay the beginning of the game is become quite repetitive and has it's glitchy moments, but it does become a much deeper and darker game the more you progress. I loved relationship building aspect BUT it does become completely overlooked when you get to certain points within the game.

As like most RPGs you are able to recruit various characters you meet to help you when you're out on the battle field, this can come in handy when you find a character who can stand back and heal you while you run in swords first. I also found this useful as the amount of damage enemies do to you can be ridiculous as times, knocking your health instantly down 1/4 before you've even had a chance to get a single hit. I wouldn't say the game was hard as such but it follows the same lines as The Witcher where sometimes it'll take you a few goes before you manage to kill a boss. It's all about technique and block, parry, block, ATTACK.

Your character has three different stances that you can switch between: The Warrior, The Ranger and The Pyromancer - each stance has it's own skill tree in which you get 2 points per level to help boost. I love this little addition because if you're like me I get pretty bored of sticking to one class of hero in RPGs, so I enjoy being able to mix it up a bit in battle. One of my biggest annoyances in games is not being able to cast magic while you're wielding a weapon, but this game lets you cast even if you are holding a two handed weapon, BEST ADDITION EVER.

The game looked pretty enough, had some lovely lighting and shadow effects I am not sure if it was supposed to look cell-shaded but it did look that way. I don't know any game to look the way this one did it was unusual and stood out to me, which is good right? I mean it didn't look bad at all!

Although the game had it's moment I really enjoyed it, there was just an element of fun to it and I couldn't put it down! Maybe if it had had the big budget behind it like Diablo then maybe we could have seen more. But for a low budget RPG it blows many top developer titles out of the water. I can't wait to see what else Spider brings to the table!
